BREAST CANCER: Learn how to do a breast self exam using a mannequin. Learn more about the Buddy 2 Buddy program.

BONE DENSITY: Bone loss leading to osteopenia or osteoporosis can happen at any age, but more so as we get older. Most people are unaware that they are losing bone mass—but if low bone density is found early, osteopenia or osteoporosis can be slowed down or stopped.

CHOLESTEROL/BLOOD PRESSURE ASSESSMENTS AND COUNSELING: Cholesterol is a substance that contributes to vessel blockages (coronary artery disease), and is manufactured by your liver through the intake of saturated fats. Your goal is to maximize good cholesterol and minimize the bad.
The purpose of a blood pressure reading is to measure the force your blood exerts against your blood vessel walls.

BODY COMPOSITION (BODY MASS INDEX-BMI): The BMI is one way to determine whether or not an adult is overweight. BMI is determined by height and weight measurements; muscle mass is not a part of the equation.

LUNG SPIROMETRY: Spirometry measures how fast and how much air you breathe out. It is a painless test used to evaluate lung function.

PERIPHERAL ARTERY/PERIPHERAL VASCULAR DISEASE:
Using the Ankle Brachial Index, this assessment will help you determine if you may be experiencing vessel blockage (atherosclerosis).

SLEEP DISORDERS: The Sleep Center of Maine will be on hand with a self-assessment test to determine if you should be screened for a sleep disorder, such as sleep apnea.

Free  "Mom's Helper" Let the staff of the Bangor Y help by providing onsite care for your children while you receive valuable assessments.
